Leo Lions Move Up to Number 3 in Coaches Poll
The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches rated 3A Leo number 3; just 2 points behind number 2 Brebeuf. They also received a first place vote.
Last week, Leo wrapped up the ACAC conference championship, going undefeated at 7-0. They are 18-2 overall on the season. Senior pitcher Brandon Alger, who is an Indiana Tech signee, is currently 6-1-1 with an earned run average of .4, 80 strikeouts to just 11 walks and WHIP of .688. Junior Jordan Baer is 5-0 with an ERA of 1.56 and 42 strikeouts, and Junior Luke Pepple is 3-0 with an ERA of 1.50 and 27 K’s.
The offense has 4 players batting over .400 (Andrew Suciu, Alger, Mitchell Kumle, and Baer) and four others batting over .300 (Kyle Miller, Drew Adams, Pepple, and Cortlin Simpson). RBI leaders are Suciu and Baer with 21, Simpson 19, Adams 15, and Alger & Pepple 13.
Speaking of Indiana Tech…
Indiana Tech alum, Jush Judy has been promoted to the Cleveland Indians’ Triple-A affiliate in Columbus. The move comes following the Tribe’s trade of reliever Saul Rivera to the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations.
Note: Special thanks to Brad Alger for submitting the information on Leo.
Cubs Sign Miles, Trade Derosa. Former Wizards Implications?
Today, the Chicago Cubs signed free agent infielder Aaron Miles. They then promptly traded Mark DeRosa to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for three young pitchers.
These transactions have potential implications for two former Wizards. The first and most obvious is the fact that Josh Barfield’s chances of a return to the parent club just got a lot tougher than what I discussed a few days ago.
The second involves Jake Peavy. As you might recall, the Cubs were hot after Jake Peavy not too long ago, but didn’t hav ehte young pitching that San Diego was said to have coveted. After many rumors and much speculation, there was actualy a formal announcement from the Cubs stating the talks were dead. San Diego looked posied to enter the season with Peavy - who could be dealt at a later time during the season.
However, anyone paying attention has to wonder if this trade might spark renewed talks for Peavy – especially if the rumored Marquis to Colorado trade happens. Should be an interesting couples months before Spring Training starts. Hoepfully the Cubs’ ownership situation gets sorted out soon so big things can happen.
A Brief Visit to Victory Field in Indy

I was in Indy today and took a walk down to Victory Field (home of the Indianapolis Indians). The gates were open, as was the team shop. Got to take a real quick around as they prepared for a Cancer Walk that will take place tomorrow. Guess you really can promote healthy events at the ballpark.
BTW: I would have taken more pictures had I actually brought my camera. This one was taken with my camera phone.
