A few days ago, I stumbled onto Smaller Indiana. I joined and created the Northeast Indiana Baseball group. I suggest you do the same.

You may have noticed that I have removed the page for the Northeast Indiana Baseball Association (NEIBA) and NEIBA contact info. When this site was designed, the primary goal was to be a marketing tool for my book, Baseball in Fort Wayne. The secondary purpose was to become an archive for Northeast Indiana baseball related news, events and heritage.

At the time, NEIBA did not have a website of their own, and I chose to include NEIBA on this site to make sure the organization has some sort of web presence. However, NEIBA now has a site of its own and can be found at www.NEIBAseball.org. I have also added that link to my blogroll. Please check it out.

Tonight was the 2007 Northeast Indiana Baseball Association (NEIBA) Hall of Fame banquet that brought together a family that spans multiple generations. The History Center (in downtown Fort Wayne) hosted the evening’s festivities that saw three new additions to the local HOF and honored two others were honored for their contributions off the field.

Local sports personality, Kent Hormann received the Bob Parker Memorial Award and local sponsor and youth league supporter, Leo Ochoa was presented with the Colin Lister Award.

Long-time New Haven High School Baseball Coach, Dave Bischoff and one of his former standouts, former MLB player David Doster, were honored with induction into the NEIBA Hall of Fame and join a list of many great baseball ambassadors. Former Fort Wayne Daisies player, June “Pep” Peppas was also inducted into the HOF. Family members were in attendance to accept the honor on her behalf.

The event also featured speaker, Wizards General Manager Mike Nutter, who spoke about his career in Minor League Baseball, the Fort Wayne Wizards team and staff and the Harrison Square Project.

Join us for a wonderful event as we induct some of our local greats into the NEIBA Hall of Fame. The Keynote Speaker will be Mike Nutter – General Manager of the Fort Wayne Wizards! This year’s honorees include David Doster, June Pappas and Dave Bischoff. Also receiving awards will be Kent Hormann and Leo Ochoa.
