Torii Hunter – a Perfect (Angels) Fit

Torii HunterI have written a lot about Torii Hunter this Spring. I wonder if there would be as much press about him if he were still with Minnesota. Whatever the case, Jon Heyman wrote a piece yesterday for Sports Illustrated; calling him a “perfect match with his new club“.

I’ve always been a big fan of Hunter. Not just because of how great he has become as a player, but also as a person. That’s why I always read with heightened interest.

This Spring, Hunter is tearing up the Cactus League . . . and it’s tearing me up because apparently, had the Cubs at least called, Hunter may have considered. UUUUGGGGG!

While many were quick to suggest that the Angels overpaid the aging star, but given the chance, the Rangers and White Sox might have matched it.

The Angels acted like “a Ninja in the middle of the night wearing all black,” says Hunter, coming out of nowhere to sign the man who is now tearing up the Cactus League, with a .500 batting average (16 for 32), three HRs, 10 RBI and a 1.063 slugging percentage so far.

And while Hunter readily admits his undying fondness for the Twins organization, he is where he deserves to be; in the heart of a powerful lineup on a team that is poised for a deep playoff run . . . if not a World Series Championship. I’m rooting for him (unless it’s against the Cubs).
