Wizards Watch: Torii Hunter Earning Good Press with New Team

Torii Hunter with the Wizards in 1993I’ve noticed several articles about Torii Hunter as of late. Thought I would synthesize them for you here and let you do what you will. Here goes:

Hunter bangs out two hits in opener: This is a recap of the Angels Spring Training opener. Hunter “fit nicely in the middle of the order. He led off the second inning with a single and later scored, then had an RBI double in his other at-bat of the afternoon in the third inning.” A more detailed account can be found at “Hunter gets bat going early” – “It’s not the contract — the only thing I want to do is show the guys I can play,” Hunter said. Sports Illustrated also leads with Hunter’s performance in recapping the game here.

Hunter’s energy excites skipper: Angels manager, Mike Scioscia discusses the “glowing” personality of the former Wizards outfielder and the impact he is making on the clubhouse.

Torii’s personality is fun to be around . . . He’s really a light — just a good person, good with all his teammates. He’s been around, knows the game.

Hunter worth Angels’ investment: Peter Gammons uses Mike Scioscia’s commentary to compare Hunter to Dusty Baker as a player with the Dodgers. This like is a subscriber only link, so don’t bother going there.
