Wizards Watch: Headley Adjusting to New Position for Friars
By Chad Gramling | March 1, 2008
Cory Brock has an article on MLB.com and MiLB.com about former Fort Wayne Wizards third baseman and current Padres prospect, Chase Headley. Headley has proven he is on the threshold of breaking into the bigs full time, but plays a position that could have him roadblocked.
Earlier, reports of Headley working in the outfield started to surface and it looks like Headley is committed to earning his place on the squad through the best possible opening at the moment. This article provides a nice update on Headley’s progress:
The first batter of Thursday’s game against Seattle, Ichiro Suzuki, sliced a low line drive toward Headley, who battled the sun as he attempted to stay with the ball before sliding to his knees while making the catch.
“It’s not good,” Headley said of the sun. “He [Ichiro] back-spinned it a little, but it stayed up a little. It was hard to get the read of the ball off the bat.”
Headley later made a nice running catch of a fly ball down the left-field line later in the inning off the bat of Jose Vidro. In the fourth inning, Headley made a nice running grab going back on a fly ball hit by Brad Wilkerson.
