Former Daisy, June Peppas Returns to Mound

Tami Tolley has a great entry over at the Palm Beach Post about June “Pep” Peppas. Tomorrow, the 79-year-old former Fort Wayne Daisies player will throw out the first pitch of Treasure Coast Hospice 3rd Annual Celebrity Softball fundraiser.

Peppas played in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) from 1948 to 1954 and stared as a pitcher before moving to first base. She is tied for 10th on the league’s all-time batting average with a .273 average.

Peppas was also honored with induction to the Northeast Indiana Baseball (NEIBA) Hall of Fame; class of 2007.

UPDATE: The TCPalm website has a related article and some great photos of Peppas.

Pep stayed in Kalamazoo after the league folded; my brother had her for a high school teacher in the early seventies. He gets all excited when I point him to articles about her….

  • Chad Gramling:

Thanks for commenting Joel. While I have met a handful of former Daisies, I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Pep in person. She was unable to attend the NEIBA HOF event last yet when she was inducted . . . hoping to get the chance some day.
