Former DeKalb High School standout, Josh Ehmke

Former DeKalb High School baseball standout, Josh Ehmke, has been named as one of 148 student-athletes to the by College Baseball Foundation.

Ehmke, a senior at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama:

. . . posted a record of 11-2 with a school-record 132 strikeouts. He was named to the third team of the Louisville Slugger All-America team, and he was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Year. Ehmke helped lead Samford to its first-ever OVC regular-season title and to a school-record 34 wins. In conference play, the Bulldogs set an OVC record with 21 wins. [Source: ]

Ehmke transferred to Samford University after two years on the pitching staff at the University of South Alabama where he struck out 50 batters in just over 36 innings as a freshman. While at DeKalb High School (Waterloo, IN), he was named All-Area and All-Conference three times, his area’s Co-Player of the Year, posted an ERA of 1.27 and struck out 132 batters in 66 innings.

Josh is the son of Merlin and Lori Ehmke. He is majoring in business management. The Brooks Wallace Awards are in memorial of former Texas Tech shortstop and assistant coach. He was a 4-year starter who returned as a graduate assistant and later as an assistant coach after spending two years in the Texas Rangers organization. “In the summer of 1984 he was diagnosed with cancer and fought the disease courageously until his death on March 24, 1985, at age 27.
